When
driving a vehicle, brakes are crucial to your safety. This is why it is
essential to perform routine maintenance on our brakes and take them in for
inspection any time we notice something out of the ordinary. If we neglect our brakes
and leave problems until it is too late, we could make the repairs much more
expensive than they need to be. In addition, we don’t want to take any chances
regarding our safety when it comes to our vehicle’s braking system! Let’s take
a look at some important things that you should know about auto brake repair.
Cost
of brake repairs
Because the braking system involves so many
different components, there are many different things that can go wrong with
it. As such, the cost of brake repairs can range depending on the severity of
brake work needed. If you only need minor repairs such as brake pad replacement
or rotor resurfacing, you will probably need to spend somewhere between $100
and $250. If the problem is more severe, in the case of rotor replacement, you
are looking at spending $250 to $500 in repairs. For major brake repairs, you
could end up spending over $1000!
Repair
prevention
Because auto brake repair can be so expensive, we
want do everything that we can to prevent it. The best way to do this is to
avoid the need for repair altogether. In order to do this, you need to take
your vehicle in for routine maintenance work. In a routine checkup your
mechanic will check a variety of different braking components including the
disc brakes, the drum brakes, the parking brake, and the hydraulic system. If
anything is out of the ordinary, your mechanic will be able to spot it before
it becomes an expensive issue to fix.
To ensure that your brakes are properly maintained
it is generally suggested that you have them checked every 5, 000 miles. To
save you an extra trip to the repair shop, have them checked each time you get
your oil changed. Not only will routine maintenance prevent the need for auto
brake repair, but it will also extend the longevity of your braking system.
Brake
repair
If you do not engage in routine maintenance tasks,
you may come across several different braking issues throughout the lifespan of
your vehicle. Here are some things that you should look for that may signify a
braking problem:
·
- Visible wear on your brake pads
- Screeching sounds when braking
- Vibrations in brake pedal
- Slow responses
- Pulling
If your vehicle is experiencing any of the symptoms listed
above, take it to a mechanic immediately. As said previously, it is important
to catch $100 problems before they become $1000 problems! If you live in the
